Our Story

It all began in 2012 when two young dreamers from Southern Italy arrived in New York with grand ambitions. With a keen eye for design, Emiliano Cammardella became a parametric designer; Rossella Episcopo, a sociologist, taught in a Catholic school. They achieved success but found instead that their deep-rooted connection to their homeland called them to share their Southern Italian heritage and culinary traditions.

Initially, Emiliano worked tirelessly at an architecture firm in Manhattan, while Rossella dedicated herself to teaching. In their busy lives, they never lost sight of all they'd left behind in Lucania's rugged hills and the Tyrrhenian Sea's sparkling shores. After three years of hard work and dedication, they took the plunge and opened Flora, a restaurant where they could connect Southern Italian culture, design, and food.

At Flora, every dish tells a story. It might be about Cilento or the Vallo di Diano National Park; it might have its roots in the famous Amalfi Coast or the volcanic hinterland of Lucania. The stories may vary, but every menu item has this in common: it’s prepared with only a few of the highest-quality ingredients, sourced directly from Italy, precisely as we'd make them at home in Campania.

We invite you to join us for an Italian experience. You may come for the food, but we hope you'll stay for the authentic recipes, convivial gatherings, and immersion in Cilento culture that, on these shores, you'll only find here at Flora.
